Agra University Opens Doctor Producing Factory

Agra: Want to be a doctor, the Ph.D type, come to Agra University which has been running an assembly line unit for mass production of doctors, given the country's low level of literacy.
Successive vice chancellors have nurtured and sustained a system that makes securing a Ph.D, a child's play. Getting a Ph.D. is not too difficult at Agra if you have some non-academic qualities like sycophancy, extreme tolarance level and a high level of dexterity in conducting household chores. It hardly matters whether some of these worthies can even spell Doctor of philosophy correctly. The craze for doing Ph.D, began when the UGC made the degree an eligibility requirement for lecturer-ship. "Doing a Ph.D, here is not so easy if you are a UGC qualified candidate," says Vikram Singh, a research fellow of RBS College Agra. "You need to have a godfather even if your guide likes you as a good and hardworking fellow like mine does."

"There has been a tremendous jump in the output, with more and more Ph.D holders in the market looking for jobs which they do not deserve. This trend is not good for higher education specially in science where a manipulated work or a unnatural search mars you on real ground," says Dr H.P. Sinha, a renowned physicist.

Mercifully, the new vice chancellor of the university Prof. AS Kukla has begun a process of reforms. Some of the AUTA supported so-called guides are in jitters as their past deeds stand to be exposed. Kukla's bold initiatives have been widely appreciated, but till such time as they come into force, come to Agra if you wish to be a Ph.D.
